Lawrenceville, Ga.—The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved lowering the acceptable Body Mass Index (BMI) for certain patients interested in the Lap-Band® Adjustable Gastric Banding System. The acceptable BMI has been lowered to 30 for patients with at least one co-morbidity related to obesity, such as Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke or sleep apnea.
