FDA Approves Lower Acceptable BMI for Lap Band® Patients

Lap-Band Adjustable Gastric Banding System now available to millions more

Lawrenceville, Ga.—The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved lowering the acceptable Body Mass Index (BMI) for certain patients interested in the Lap-Band® Adjustable Gastric Banding System. The acceptable BMI has been lowered to 30 for patients with at least one co-morbidity related to obesity, such as Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke or sleep apnea.
